It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation -- a sail through the high seas on a pretty yacht. But for one family of four, it's anything but relaxing when a solar eclipse randomly occurs, the kids get sick, and the yacht hits an iceberg, smashes to smithereens, and sinks.

The end.

No, wait! It's not the end! Nobody dies because luckily there are friendly dolphins in these wacky waters, and the critters save the family and fling 'em onto the beach. From there, the family gets quite a surprise -- they learn they're on an island in the Bermuda Triangle, a bunch of folks already live there (and have even started their own civilization), and there's no hope for escape.

The end.

Okay, okay, I'll stop saying the end when it's not really the end. Geez, take all my fun away. Okay, so this family consists of Mom and Dad, who are both doctors, teenager Annie, and 10-year-old Sam. Sam is diabetic, and all but three days' worth of his insulin went to the bottom of the sea with the boat. Annie has a crush on their yacht's captain, but it's unrequited, especially now that Captian Boy's gotten a look at one of the island's residents, Amanda (played by Naomi Watts.)

The islanders are thrilled that doctors have washed ashore. One in particular is especially excited -- a pregnant woman who's about to deliver.

After the initial shock of realizing they're here to stay, the family members begin to settle in. Annie makes friends with the dolphins; Sam befriends an island native. Dad's not so content to enjoy himself, though... he's determined to find the yachtwreck and obtain the rest of Sam's insulin. But even that insulin won't last more than three months. Unless they find a way out of the Bermuda Triangle, Sam will die.

Luckily, it all works out, because after a blowup with Daddy, Sam runs away and goes to join his new best friend's tribe, where they feed him something that cures him of his diabetes. Captain Boy and Naomi Watts get all romantic. And Mom the pediatrician delivers the island woman's baby without too much trouble. Miracles all around!

Bermuda Triangle used to freak me out because it made me start thinking deeply about how much I take for granted. The family in this movie will never get back to the United States. They will never again see their house, their friends, or their coworkers. Yet here they are on a beautiful island, where they have all their needs met... what more could they want?

When I was 15 and this movie first aired? My answer was "TV." I mean, duh. I'd miss my favorite TV show!

Now that I'm older, I would kind of like to go live on an island in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, never to be seen or heard from again. Who needs TV when you've got dolphins?
