Confession -- I kind of like Danielle Steel movies. It all started in the mid-90's when a certain really hot actor who shall remain nameless appeared in one of her films. I couldn't resist. Soon I was hooked.
Sure, the plots are a bit convoluted... the steamy love scenes come off as cheesy... and there are too many characters to keep track of... but they're good for two hours of amusement. Like a soap opera, but with fewer evil twins.
Daddy focuses on three generations of fathers in one family. The oldest, Grandpa, is dealing with a wife with Alzheimers. The main character, Dad (Patrick Duffy) was recently abandoned by his wife, who wanted to go back to school in another state -- without him (she eventually divorces him altogether). Their teenage son, Ben (Ben Affleck), is a high school senior who eventually gets his girlfriend pregnant, and soon after becomes a father to a baby boy.
Get it? "Daddy"? Everyone and his dog is somebody's father? Yep, themes are good.
So the family's dealing with Alzheimers Grandma, walk-out Mommy, three very screwed-up kids, and a new baby. Then Grandma has an accident, Ben's girlfriend takes the baby and disappears, um... oh yeah, and Dad meets Lynda Carter and they get it on.
But in the end, they all live happily ever after. That's the nice thing about Danielle Steel movies. No matter how much hell she puts her characters through, they end up happy in the end. Of course there's always some member of the family who's left out, but who cares, they didn't matter anyway!
