FROG

Original Airdate: 1987
Type: Comedy

Arlo Anderson is one hopeless little nerdcase. He's obsessed with reptiles and amphibians. He has no social life whatsoever. On his way to his first date -- ever -- he buys a new frog, and takes it with him to the theater, in his pocket. Once inside, chaos and screaming ensue. Because frogs + movie theaters + teenage girls = chaos & screaming, duh.

That night, at home, Arlo discovers that his frog can talk because he's actually a prince trapped in a frog's body. The frog's name is Gus. Gus makes a deal with Arlo -- he'll help him get a date if Arlo helps Gus get a kiss from a girl. A kiss is what he needs to break his froggy spell. Arlo agrees.

Yeah, like Arlo knows any girls. Oh wait, what about the screaming ones from the movie theater? Perfect!

Arlo asks one of the girls, Susie (cuz he's got a cru-ush on her) to be his science fair partner. She agrees, because she knows being Arlo's partner will guarantee her a good grade.

Not surprisingly, Arlo has no luck getting a girl to kiss that darn frog.

The day of the science fair arrives, and even though Arlo has designed a kickass project all about how frogs communicate, this INSANE (bug-eyed, freaky, off-the-wall, on too many drugs) science fair judge berates him and tells him his project sucks.

Gus, the frog, decides he's going to prove the psycho judge wrong. Frogs CAN communicate with other frogs. He gathers up a bunch of his friends (other frogs) and they storm the school -- while Gus sings That's Amore over the P.A.

FROGS EVERYWHERE OMG! People scream and everyone flees the school.

After the science fair fiasco, Arlo and Gus decide to part ways. Later, Arlo tells Susie about how special Gus is. She agrees to kiss the frog. Susie and Arlo go to the local pond but can't find Gus, so Susie just starts kissing every frog in sight. She plucks them out of the pond and smooches them, one after another. Right before the cops come to haul the kids away (for committing the crime of standing a pond and acting like a freakshow), Susie happens to grab Gus, and she kisses him -- but she's not aware it is Gus.

Until...

Arlo and his family have gone out to dinner and brought Susie along. This has got to be the next day or something. They've gone to an Italian restaurant. A singer who sounds a lot like Gus gets up and starts to sing That's Amore. Susie's and Arlo's eyes widen in surprise. YOU DON'T SUPPOSE...?

Frog is not available on DVD or VHS in the United States. There, there, now, don't cry....
