HOW THE WEST WAS FUN

Starring: Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Patrick Cassidy, Martin Mull
Original Airdate: 1994
Type: Family/Drama

Bart Gafooley is not a nice guy. He wants to turn the family ranch into a theme park. He schemes and he plots. He cheats his own mother out of the property rights. Soon, his dream of owning and operating Gafooley Land will be realized!

One thing he didn't count on, however...

THE OLSEN TWINS

Dum dum DUMMMMM.

Yes, Mary-Kate and Ashley play Susie and Jessica, girls who come to the ranch with their dad (Patrick Cassidy) to visit Bart's mom, who used to care for the twins' mother, Sarah, when she was a girl. And when the twins find out how evil Bart is, they take it upon themselves to save the ranch. They don't want rollercoasters and shooting galleries. They want horses and dirt and trees and stuff. And they'll do whatever it takes.

Meanwhile, their dad hooks up with the local rodeo rider chic. Lucky woman.

Which begs the question -- why do the Olsens only have one parent in so many of their TV movies? In To Grandmother's House We Go, it's just a mom; in Billboard Dad it's just a dad, and same thing here. Who writes these scripts, anyway? Disney?

In the end, the Olsens dupe Gafooley, who ends up going over a dam/waterfall in a raft and breaks his arms and neck -- but lives. The final scene shows Gafooley in a body cast, sitting at a ho-down watching the Olsens line dance.

Creepy.

I have to say, though, Patrick Cassidy makes this movie worth watching again and again!
